Musical Nomad
DJ Ishtar was born in Iran and settled in The Netherlands in 1990. Her sonic pilgrimage began at a young age: as the daughter of the sole distributors of Western music in Iran at the time, she was nurtured with music from East and West of all genres.
The love for electronic music was born in the Amsterdam house scene. Being a passionate traveler, Ishtar was soon bored with house and started longing for something beyond the borders known till that time. In 2003 she took her amazing music collection from all around the globe to club Nomads in Amsterdam (Supper Club), where she went on to become resident DJ. In the following years she developed her approach, merging the two worlds of traditional ethnic music and electronica: the sound she now calls ‘Worldtronica’. In the Netherlands DJ Ishtar soon became known as the ambassador of this exciting genre, mixing the whole world into One!
East, West, past, present, roots and techno melt into heartfelt music that is beyond borders in the hands of DJ Ishtar.
DJ Ishtar: “For me DJ’ing is the means to share oneness through music and dance. It’s a modern ritual in which a mutual state of mind is entered where unity can be experienced. It’s a ceremonial celebration of all the good things in life, of that one special feeling called love and of the beauty that our planet earth has on offer but which we tend to overlook because of all the negativity going on in the world. Having a good time is essential to our well-being and so I see this as my little contribution of something positive to this world.”
From 2007 to 2009 DJ Ishtar hosted her own weekly radio show on the national Dutch radio 6 (NPS), being the one and only promoter of Worldtronica in the Netherlands,
DJ Ishtar has performed in national and international venues and is probably the first Iranian female DJ to play in countries across Asia, Middle East and North Africa.
During her live sets, whether she plays for 50 people at a small venue or for 80.000 people at a big festival, the party is always ON with DJ Ishtar.
